The initiative seeks to amend the Road Code to explicitly prohibit parking in these designated areas, except for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles actively charging. Violators could face fines ranging from 865 to 1,081 lei and receive three penalty points. The proposal emphasizes the need for a clear legal framework to ensure access to charging infrastructure, which is crucial for promoting sustainable mobility in Romania. Additionally, it defines electric vehicle charging locations and the vehicles eligible for these spots. The legislation aligns with Romania's commitment to install over 13,000 charging points by 2026, encouraging investment in charging networks and boosting public confidence in electric vehicle infrastructure.
