Electrocentrale București S.A. (ELCEN) has completed the first stage of the procurement process for a new high-efficiency cogeneration plant at CTE Progresu. Following the evaluation of three candidates, two have been selected for the next phase, the competitive dialogue. This project aims to enhance energy production capacity with a new cogeneration unit of 74.2 MWe and 72.8 MWt, utilizing modern thermal engine technology. The plant will operate on natural gas and is designed to adapt to hydrogen use in the future. The investment, estimated at 825 million lei, is part of ELCEN's broader modernization program and is expected to be operational by September 2029.
