BEI va realiza prima sa investiţie în reactoare nucleare modulare mici (SMR) - Economica.net

The European Investment Bank (EIB) announced its first investment in small modular reactors (SMRs), aiming to support the development of next-generation nuclear technologies in Europe. SMRs, which are smaller than conventional reactors, can be factory-built and transported, offering a flexible energy production solution. The EIB will provide a €40 million loan to Finnish startup Steady Energy for a 50-megawatt SMR designed for local heating networks. This investment is part of a broader strategy to promote SMR technology, with the first European reactors expected to be operational by the early 2030s. The EIB's support signals a positive outlook for nuclear energy investment amid differing EU member state opinions on nuclear power.
