The Turda fort of the longest-serving Roman legion has been restored with nearly 6 million euros and is now open to the public. The V Macedonica Legion, established in 43 BC, was active for about 680 years, defending the Roman Empire's borders. Restoration began in 2016 and was completed in 2024, aiming to preserve archaeological remains and enhance tourism. The fort covers 24 hectares and was strategically located for defense. It is part of the UNESCO heritage site, which includes various Roman military structures across Romania.
