The National Council for the Study of Securitate Archives revealed the size of the Securitate before 1989, with 14,629 employees reported in September 1988. The central apparatus had over 6,000 staff, while various units focused on surveillance and control. The data also highlighted the low representation of women in leadership roles, with only 22 in such positions across the entire organization. The findings were compiled from original documents preserved in the archives.
