Romania's current account deficit reached 16.29 billion euros from January to July 2026, an increase from 15.707 billion euros in the same period of 2025. The goods balance showed a larger deficit, while the services balance had a higher surplus. Direct investments from non-residents totaled 1.127 billion euros, significantly lower than the previous year. Total external debt rose to 234.879 billion euros, with long-term debt accounting for 77.6% of the total. The coverage ratio for short-term external debt dropped to 91.4%.
