Romanian youth leave their parents' home at an average age of 27.4, higher than the EU average of 26.3. Eurostat data shows a slight increase in the EU average age from 26.2 in 2024 to 26.3 in 2025. Some countries report young people leaving home after 30, with Croatia having the highest age at 31.5. In contrast, Finland has the lowest at 21.4. Romania's average is close to Bulgaria and Hungary. The employment rate for young people aged 20-29 in the EU is 65.5%, while in Romania it is 52%. Countries where youth leave home earlier tend to have higher employment rates.
