EXCLUSIV. Palatul Cotroceni, comunicare nouă în privința generalului Pahonțu: CNSAS, nu CSAT, trebuia să-l verifice „atât la momentul numirii în funcție, cât și în prezent”

The Romanian Presidential Administration clarified that the National Council for the Study of Security Archives (CNSAS) should have verified General Lucian Pahonțu, not the Supreme Council of National Defense (CSAT). This statement contradicts earlier claims by President Nicușor Dan, who initially stated that CSAT had conducted checks on Pahonțu regarding potential political policing. The clarification came after inquiries about the verification process prior to Pahonțu's appointment as head of the SPP in 2005. Pahonțu has faced scrutiny due to allegations of his involvement in repressive actions during the 1989 Revolution and the 1990 Mineriad. The CSAT has not responded to requests for information about the verification process.
