The Military Court of Appeal in Bucharest will begin hearing the appeal in the "10 August" case, where former Gendarmerie leaders were acquitted of abuse of office related to the violent suppression of protesters in August 2018. The initial acquittal was based on the judge's ruling that the actions were not criminally punishable. The Military Prosecutor's Office and over a hundred victims have appealed the decision. The former leaders are accused of improperly executing their duties, leading to a forceful intervention against approximately 30,000 protesters. Prosecutors argue that the use of force was illegal and constituted inhumane treatment.
