Starting November, new processing fees will apply to small packages from platforms like Temu and Shein, in addition to existing customs duties. The EU aims to manage the increasing volume of small parcels entering from outside the Union, particularly from China. The exact fee amount is yet to be determined by the European Commission. E-commerce platforms will be responsible for customs formalities, shifting the burden from consumers. This reform also aims to enhance safety standards and impose stricter penalties on non-compliant operators, with fines potentially reaching 6% of their annual import value.
