He urged states and companies to collaborate in multilateral forums to establish a framework for AI development. Turk highlighted the existential threats AI poses to human rights, including life, privacy, and security. Concerns are rising about the rapid advancement of AI and its potential to disrupt essential services and democratic institutions. Tech leaders have also called for a slowdown in AI development to better understand associated risks. Turk emphasized that no single country or company can regulate AI alone, and collective responsibility is essential.
