The European Commission plans to restrict access to social media and AI chatbots for children under 15. This proposal, part of a legislative package, aims to protect minors while allowing them to benefit from digital services. Children aged 15 and older can create accounts, while those aged 13-14 may request parental accounts with restrictions. For children aged 3-12, accounts will be fully controlled by parents. Companies will face requirements to avoid addictive designs and harmful content, and they must verify users' ages. The proposal will be finalized with EU member states and the European Parliament before becoming law.
