Statul Național Legionar - un avertisment din istoria recentă a României
On September 14, 1940, the National Legionary State was established under Ion Antonescu, who appointed Horia Sima as his deputy. Antonescu sought the support of the Legionnaires to form a government shortly after King Carol II abdicated. The political dynamics of this regime, characterized as a 'dual state', involved a power struggle between Antonescu and the Legionnaires, with key ministries controlled by both sides. The regime implemented significant internal policies, including purges in higher education, reflecting totalitarian tendencies. Antonescu aligned Romania's foreign policy with Nazi Germany, entering the Tripartite Pact. Tensions arose between Antonescu and the Legionnaires over their differing relationships with Hitler and the direction of the regime.
