Foreign tourists significantly increased their spending in Romania this summer, with a 63% rise in card payments compared to 2025. The total reached nearly a quarter billion lei, driven by a 52% increase in transaction numbers. British tourists led in spending, followed by Germans and Italians, while Ukrainian visitors saw a remarkable 150.9% increase in payments. The average transaction value rose to 159 lei, with Irish tourists spending the most per transaction. Overall, Romania attracted 134,000 more foreign tourists this year, with notable growth from North America. Bucharest topped the spending chart, followed by Constanța, Timișoara, and Brașov.
