The government would fill the empty general practitioner practices from a fund of 1.75 billion forints
The Hungarian government plans to allocate 1.75 billion HUF in the 2027 budget to fill vacant medical practices. Currently, over 1,000 areas lack a permanent doctor, affecting 1.4 million people who rely on temporary replacements. Minister Viktória Lőrincz emphasized the need for action, stating that the government will reduce excessive propaganda to fund this initiative. Support for doctors' settlement will involve local governments, state aid, and housing benefits in areas with the greatest need. A recent analysis noted a 15% decrease in the number of family doctors since 2010, with over 760 practices unfilled and more than 700 settlements lacking a permanent physician.
