1 in 10 private nursing homes is in poor condition: "Service delivery is at risk"

A recent financial inspection revealed that about 10% of private care homes in Flanders face significant financial difficulties, potentially impacting service delivery. While most organizations are financially stable, 17% experience limited issues that could be resolved with targeted measures. Concerns were raised regarding the use of government funds, with nearly one-third of private operators lacking clear documentation on expenditures. Minister Caroline Gennez emphasized the need for transparency and proper allocation of funds to ensure care quality. The private care sector criticized the report for focusing solely on them, arguing that public facilities should also be scrutinized and that funding cuts have exacerbated financial challenges.
