The GVH fined Aldi 123 million for claiming it has the best deals
The Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH) fined Aldi 123 million HUF for misleading claims about having the best deals and widest selection. The investigation began in summer 2025 after Aldi used these claims based on a food award it won. GVH stated that Aldi's assertions lacked objective evidence to support their market leadership. The authority noted that the award categories had few participants and were based on public voting, making the claims misleading. GVH emphasized that businesses should only make market leadership claims if they possess objective data to support them. Lidl faced a similar situation recently, receiving a 48 million HUF fine.
