Aldi received a fine of 123 million because the selection was not the widest there.
The Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH) fined Aldi 123 million HUF for misleading advertising claims about having the "widest selection" and "best deals." The investigation began last summer after concerns arose regarding the truthfulness of these claims, which were based on a subjective public vote from the Nők Lapja Food Awards 2024. Although Aldi's revenue has increased, the per-store performance and profitability tell a different story. The GVH stated that market leadership claims must be supported by objective and timely data at the time of advertisement. Aldi ceased the disputed practices after the investigation started.
