150,000 protested against Vucic in Belgrade before the elections
In Belgrade, around 150,000 supporters gathered to demand the ousting of Aleksandar Vučić's party ahead of crucial parliamentary elections. The student-led movement, known as the Student List, aims to end the Serbian Progressive Party's over 14-year rule. The election campaign has been marred by intimidation and misuse of public resources. The protests were sparked by a tragic incident at a train station that resulted in 16 deaths, which many attribute to corruption. The movement initially sought transparency regarding the tragedy but has since escalated to demanding early elections. Participants waved banners and chanted slogans, marking one of the largest protests in Serbia since 2000.
