200 migrants detected in Gavdos by the Maritime Police
The Maritime Police intercepted around 200 migrants on Gavdos Island, Greece, as part of the "Joint Operation Greece 2026". The operation took place near Kastri, with 16 women, three children, and one man transported to Karaves port. A medical rescue was conducted for one migrant showing signs of physical distress. The remaining migrants were assisted by local authorities. This operation supports the Greek Coast Guard and aims to enhance the surveillance of the EU's external maritime borders and respond to life-threatening situations at sea. Previously, the Maritime Police rescued 42 migrants off Gavdos and 44 in October.
