250,000 rally in Madrid demanding state pension guarantees

On October 24, 250,000 people marched in Madrid to demand protection for the pension scheme ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections. The protest highlighted concerns over the sustainability of pensions and the rising cost of living. Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez accused the opposition of attempting to undermine inflation-linked pension increases. Demonstrators peacefully marched from Atocha to Gran Via, carrying banners advocating for pension protection. The opposition leader, Alberto Nunez Feijoo, promised to maintain pension increases aligned with inflation if elected. Currently, about 6.8 million Spaniards receive state pensions, averaging €1,576 monthly.
