270 Ukrainian POWs return home in latest swap with Russia

On October 23, Ukraine and Russia conducted a prisoner exchange, with 270 Ukrainian soldiers returning home, as announced by President Zelensky. The exchange also included 270 Russian prisoners released back to Russia. Additionally, seven Ukrainian civilians were returned from Russia, while another seven traveled there for family reunification, facilitated by the ICRC. Despite ongoing U.S.-mediated peace talks failing to achieve a ceasefire, prisoner exchanges continue to be a rare point of cooperation between the two nations. This marks the 11th prisoner exchange reported in 2026, following two previous exchanges in August.
