30,000 people are still using the old ID card, even though it will expire permanently at the end of the year.

The deadline for exchanging old ID cards is approaching, with a grace period until December 31. Although these cards lost validity on August 3, they can still be accepted in certain cases until the end of the year. The Digital Hungary Agency urges individuals to act promptly, as from January 1, 2027, these cards will no longer be accepted. The exchange can be initiated at any government office without prior appointment, but it cannot be done through a proxy. Required documents include the old ID card and a residence card. Solutions are available for those unable to visit due to health issues. Over 130,000 ID exchanges have occurred recently, but more than 30,000 individuals still need to obtain the new document.
