They found 48-year-old beer in a glacier crevice, tapped it, and it was still good
Daniel Oberlechner, a trail runner, discovered a beer barrel lost for 48 years in a glacier crevice in the Ahrntal Valley. The beer, originally delivered by helicopter in 1978, remained drinkable despite its long entrapment. The Harpf beverage company highlighted the story, noting the barrel likely came from their stock. The barrel fell due to a damaged helicopter net during delivery to a mountain hut. Oberlechner transported it down using a small cart, where it was tasted by colleagues and the owner, Lukas Harpf, who confirmed its excellent quality. The beer's preservation was attributed to the stable temperature in the glacier crevice, preventing freezing.
