70 years since the anti-communist uprising, Hungary commemorates the bloody suppressed revolution
European leaders and thousands of Hungarians commemorated the 70th anniversary of the 1956 anti-communist uprising in Budapest. Czech Senate President Miloš Vystrčil emphasized the fragility of democracy during the event. He warned against the erosion of independent media and the importance of nurturing democracy. The event marked a new chapter in Hungary's relations with the EU, following the election of Prime Minister Péter Magyar, who criticized the previous government's ties with Russia and its undermining of democratic norms. Magyar honored the bravery of those who fought in 1956 and reiterated Hungary's commitment to a free and democratic Europe.
