'My plants don't talk back and they don't have to. I really enjoy that they are so quiet'
Jolanda de Koning, a 42-year-old volunteer, runs a plant shelter called Plantastico in Alkmaar. She started the shelter five years ago to help people rehome their plants. Jolanda, who has a chronic illness, receives a WIA benefit and enjoys caring for plants, believing in their growth potential. She engages with them by talking and playing music, creating a nurturing environment. Living alone with her pets, she balances her time between volunteering and personal care. Jolanda emphasizes the value of volunteering, sharing her story to inspire others in similar situations. She advocates for finding joy in life beyond traditional work.
