‘She saw him regularly on the train but always had to get off earlier – until one time she stayed seated’

Renée Menting shares a nostalgic photo of her parents, Jacoba and Jan Pieter Menting, reflecting on their life together. They built a bungalow in the 1960s after moving for Jan's job at Groningen University. Jacoba, a musician turned physical therapist, and Jan, a language teacher, had a rich family life filled with students and outdoor adventures. They remained in their Haren home until their passing during the early COVID-19 lockdown, both in their nineties. Their daughter recalls their love for the house and the impact of the pandemic on their family.
