There is a shortage of 9000 police officers; firefighters will get their names back
The Hungarian Minister of Interior reported a shortage of about 9,000 police officers nationwide, with 2,000 in Budapest. To address this, former officers can return, with over 1,200 applying and 400 already reinstated. The goal is to reduce the shortage by 1,500-2,000 within a year. A salary adjustment in the law enforcement sector will average a 15% increase, with some positions seeing up to a 30% rise. The ministry is also exploring options for retired officers to continue working. Additionally, the integration of the Counter-Terrorism Center and the National Police Headquarters has been completed, affecting over 6,000 personnel, and the fire service will revert to its original name, Fire Department, starting January 1.
