"Things have changed" – yet the rule of law monitoring EP delegation found issues that raise concern.

The LIBE committee's DRFMG working group held a press conference in Budapest, focusing on democracy, rule of law, and human rights monitoring. The three-day visit included Sophie Wilmes, former Prime Minister of Belgium, and Tineke Strik, a Green Party MEP. Wilmes noted that their last visit occurred during a period of declining rule of law under the previous government, which was met with hostility. However, she expressed optimism about the new government's significant majority and commitments to change. The group assessed changes, current challenges, and how the European Parliament can assist.
