Fidesz may have reported doctored military data to NATO

NATO member states must report their military personnel data annually, with Hungary recently submitting its figures for the first time under a new government. The Tisza administration not only provided the 2026 numbers but also retroactively corrected data submitted by the previous Fidesz government. The Ministry of Defense reported 20,100 personnel for 2023, but the new figures indicate only 17,600, reflecting a significant decrease of 2,500 personnel or 12.4%. This discrepancy suggests a potential ongoing issue rather than a one-time error.
