The housing we did not want

The notion that buying a house was easier in the past is a myth. While it required significant financial commitment, the current housing crisis is exacerbated by increased immigration and stricter banking regulations post-financial crisis. The population in Portugal has grown significantly, leading to higher demand for housing and rising prices. Additionally, the construction sector has suffered due to reduced lending, resulting in fewer homes being built. Although there are signs of recovery in construction, it will take time to address the housing shortage. Public policies have long-term costs, and the balance in regulation is crucial to avoid future crises. Politicians must act wisely and communicate effectively with voters to navigate these challenges.
