Six percent of the budget's reduction can be attributed to savings in public media.

The Hungarian government plans to reduce public media funding by 61.3 billion HUF in the 2027 budget, representing 6% of overall budget cuts. This decision is attributed to overpriced contracts and unnecessary operational costs. The government aims for a budget deficit of 4.9% by 2030, necessitating significant expenditure reductions. The new leadership of public media has already reported savings of 7 billion HUF and has raised concerns about political oversight in previous years. The budget for public media has increased significantly over the years, now reaching 155 billion HUF, despite inflation. Next year, funding will drop to 93.4 billion HUF, similar to levels from 2015, amidst an 80% inflation rate since then.
