Hospitals may also be involved in the financing of expensive medications according to a draft law
A proposed healthcare law in Hungary suggests that access to individual exceptional treatments may depend on the doctor's recommendation, drug pricing, and hospital finances. The National Health Insurance Fund (NEAK) would finance treatments not yet covered by social insurance for rare diseases and severe conditions. The decision-making process would shift from the Batthyány-Strattmann Foundation to the National Health Insurance Fund, aiming for quicker and cheaper access to treatments. The proposal includes financial caps on individual support and encourages manufacturers to justify drug prices based on effectiveness. Hospitals may also need to commit financially to expensive treatments, and rules for drug acceptance would be modified to allow quicker access to new medications.
