The government abolishes the salary cap on service pensions and the 15 percent personal income tax on it.
The government plans to abolish the salary cap on service pensions in 2027 and eliminate the 15% personal income tax on them starting in 2028. This announcement was made by the defense and interior ministers, who acknowledged the dissatisfaction among law enforcement and defense personnel due to a previous decision that imposed a tax on service pensions since 2012. Tóth Zoltán from the Public Service Police Union commented on a recently announced 15% salary increase in the law enforcement sector, stating that while it is an improvement, it falls short of expectations. Interior Minister Pósfai Gábor defended the government's decision, emphasizing the significance of this comprehensive salary increase after many years without similar adjustments.
