The government is raising the upper limit for tax-free bank transfers multiple times.
The Tisza government plans to triple the limit for tax-free bank transfers to 150,000 HUF starting in 2027, aiming to encourage digital payments. However, the government will also increase the transaction tax cap from 20,000 HUF to 30,000 HUF, impacting larger transfers. This change is expected to shift the burden primarily onto businesses, as they often make larger transactions. Detailed rules regarding these changes will be revealed only after the legislative proposal is submitted. The transaction tax was originally introduced in 2012 and has seen increases since then, with additional taxes on currency exchanges also implemented.
