The NAV has ordered an investigation into the Southern Ring Railway case
The Hungarian National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV) has launched an investigation into suspected budget fraud related to the second phase of the Southern Railway Ring. This follows a report from the Ministry of Transport and Investment, which alleged collusion during the construction procurement process. The investigation was initiated on October 19, after the ministry suspended the project and terminated the contract with the main contractor, V-Híd, owned by Lőrinc Mészáros. The European Commission had previously indicated it would withdraw 360 billion HUF in EU funding due to these allegations. The ministry plans to file a complaint with NAV and seek assistance from the Competition Authority regarding potential cartel behavior. V-Híd has not commented on its exclusion from the project but is reviewing the government's statements.
