On Wednesday it’s for real. Romania has a new prime minister

Luca Niculescu has been appointed as Romania's new Prime Minister, receiving 280 votes in favor during a parliamentary session. He aims to address the ongoing political crisis and prioritize investment over austerity. The previous coalition government collapsed due to a no-confidence motion initiated by the Social Democratic Party and the Alliance for the Union of Romanians. Niculescu's government consists of 11 ministers from the PSD and seven independents, with a minimum term of six months. Political tensions have escalated following the annulled presidential elections in 2024, amid allegations of Russian electoral interference.
