The police salary increase is far from the desired 50 percent

The Prime Minister announced a 15% salary increase for law enforcement workers, but the Independent Police Union argues this is insufficient, seeking a 50% raise to prevent staff turnover. Interior Minister Gábor Pósfai defended the decision, stating the increase will be differentiated, with lower raises for leaders. The base salary, unchanged since 2008, will rise by 10%, and official allowances will also increase. A preferential organizational allowance will be introduced in areas with significant staff shortages, such as Budapest and Pest County. Pósfai acknowledged the criticisms but emphasized that addressing years of neglect cannot be resolved quickly.
