The CEO of Spar Austria has urged the European Commission to initiate infringement proceedings against Hungary due to the retail special tax. Hans Reisch expressed skepticism about the tax being abolished soon, claiming that foreign retail networks face systemic discrimination. He criticized the Hungarian government's lack of commitment to creating equal competitive conditions. Peter Manhartsberger from Spar stated that optimism regarding the Hungarian government has proven unfounded. Meanwhile, the National Trade Association expressed disappointment over the lack of tax reduction plans for 2027, highlighting the need to eliminate extraordinary taxes to improve competitiveness in the domestic food supply chain.
