Tesco sells its stores in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, the fate of its Hungarian network is currently uncertain

Tesco is selling its Czech and Slovak operations to Ahold Delhaize for €1.7 billion, part of its strategy to exit foreign markets. The deal includes all stores and offices in these countries and is expected to close in late 2027 after regulatory approvals. Tesco will retain its Hungarian operations but is considering future options for them. This sale simplifies Tesco's operations, allowing it to focus more on the UK and Irish markets, where most of its revenue comes from. The Czech and Slovak branches generated £2.9 billion in revenue last year. Ahold Delhaize operates the Albert supermarket chain in the region and serves millions of customers globally.
