The Tisza has thrown a lifebuoy to the struggling pensioners, but the future is unsettling

The Hungarian government has decided to halt the introduction of the 14th monthly pension due to unsustainable budget implications. Prime Minister Péter Magyar and Finance Minister András Kármán cited the lack of financial backing for previous promises made by Fidesz. The government will replace the Otthon Start program with Wekerle Plusz and impose limits on certain tax exemptions. The projected costs of the 14th pension could reach 312 billion HUF next year and 624 billion HUF by 2030. Despite this, the government will maintain the already implemented 57th pension week, which has significant budgetary implications. The total budget impact of these additional pension weeks could exceed 800 billion HUF by 2030 if no further increases occur.
