A urgência de cuidar do cérebro

The I International Scientific Congress of the Portuguese Institute of Neurodegenerative Diseases highlighted the urgent need for integrated approaches to tackle neurodegenerative diseases in Portugal. Experts discussed the rising prevalence of dementia and Parkinson's disease, emphasizing the lack of effective therapies to halt these conditions. Advances in biomarkers are enabling earlier and more accurate diagnoses. However, fragmented efforts in research and care hinder progress. A national strategy is needed to unify research, diagnosis, and care, with a focus on prevention through addressing modifiable risk factors. The congress underscored the importance of collaboration among various sectors to improve outcomes for patients and caregivers.
