According to the Wall Street Journal, the Trump administration would welcome Viktor Orbán as a joint American-Chinese-Russian candidate for the UN Secretary-General position.
The Wall Street Journal reports that the Trump administration is lobbying for Viktor Orbán to become the next UN Secretary-General, succeeding António Guterres. They have contacted Russia and China to support Orbán as a joint candidate. A US diplomatic source believes the idea could gain traction if the US, Russia, and China align. Orbán needs nine votes from the 15-member Security Council and must avoid a veto from any of the five permanent members, requiring support from the UK and France. Although Latin America is next in line for the position, no strong candidates have emerged. Orbán is seen as an ideal candidate by the MAGA movement due to his stance against mass migration and liberal organizations. He is reportedly open to the idea but wants assurance of securing the position before committing.
