The number of students in the Frisian teacher training program has doubled this year

The number of students enrolled in the Frisian teacher training program has more than doubled this year, attributed to Friesland's language policy. The NHL Stenden University in Leeuwarden reports 36 new students, including many career changers. This increase signals growing interest in Frisian education, supported by the Taalplan Frysk 2030 initiative, which aims to integrate Frisian into schools. All students in Friesland will learn Frisian and it will be offered as an exam subject by 2030. The province is actively recruiting teachers to meet the demand, anticipating a need for many new educators in the coming years.
