Abrantes wants to build 100 more affordable housing units

The Câmara de Abrantes plans to build an additional 100 affordable housing units, complementing the 64 already in progress, to address housing shortages. Mayor Manuel Jorge Valamatos emphasized the need for increased housing supply to mitigate rising prices. Currently, 58 of the planned units are under construction, with six awaiting financing agreements. The municipality aims to secure funding for the new units while establishing criteria for housing access. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance public housing availability, particularly for young families facing financial challenges. Valamatos highlighted the distinction between affordable and social housing, advocating for continued investment in both areas.
