"They opened wherever they wanted". Health Minister says there has been no regulation of private entities in recent years

The Health Minister stated that the private healthcare sector has lacked regulation in recent years, allowing facilities to open near public hospitals. Ana Paula Martins emphasized that the Health Regulatory Authority only enforces existing laws and expressed skepticism about further private sector growth. She suggested that instead of viewing private entities as competitors, they should be seen as partners under clear regulations. Regarding healthcare professional retention, she acknowledged the need for deeper measures and recognized the challenge of attracting professionals to less desirable locations. The government's budget proposal for 2027 has been approved in general terms, with a final vote scheduled for November 24.
