Camp in Porto: PSP justifies weapon drawn with beating of three plainclothes police officers

The PSP defended its use of force during a protest in Porto, claiming three plainclothes officers were violently attacked by demonstrators. The police preserved surveillance footage to counter viral videos from protesters alleging excessive force. The footage shows the officers being assaulted even after falling to the ground. The PSP stated that the display of a firearm by one officer was a deterrent to prevent further violence against a fourth team member. Thirteen officers were injured, with three hospitalized due to serious injuries. The police emphasized that their actions were in self-defense, while protesters condemned the police response as excessive and unconstitutional.
