Deputy of the MAI for elections requested to resign from the position
Joaquim Morgado, the deputy secretary-general of the Ministry of Internal Administration, has requested to leave his position to join a body within the Ministry of Education. His departure follows the recent dismissal of Ricardo Carrilho, the former secretary-general of the MAI, by Minister Luís Neves. Morgado's exit is set to take effect on October 31, after initially requesting it for October 26. In his resignation letter, he expressed willingness to ensure an orderly transition and highlighted his contributions to electoral administration and modernization. Carrilho's dismissal was attributed to a breach of trust and issues affecting service operations, while he claimed it was a retaliatory act against him for refusing to engage in illegal procedures. The new secretary-general, Nuno Miguel Parreira da Silva, has been in office since October 15.
