Malpractice admitted in the death of a 24-year-old woman: she was sent home several times with headaches and vomiting

The Cantabrian Health Service acknowledged malpractice in the care of a 24-year-old patient who died due to undiagnosed cerebral venous thrombosis. Her family will receive €219,723 in compensation. Despite multiple visits to healthcare facilities, a crucial cranial CT scan was never performed, leading to her deteriorating condition. The medical inspection report confirmed the failure to act on alarming symptoms. The family’s claim was accepted by the Cantabrian Health Department, avoiding court proceedings. The report praised the efforts of the medical team at Marqués de Valdecilla Hospital, although they could not save her life.
