Tax increases: spirits and cigars will noticeably become more expensive next year
The Hungarian government plans to increase excise taxes on alcoholic beverages and tobacco products starting January 2027. The excise tax on spirits will rise from 621,740 HUF to 688,090 HUF per hectoliter, while intermediate alcohol products will increase from 30,880 HUF to 34,170 HUF. Additionally, the tax on cigars and cigarillos will change from 14% to 21% of the retail price, with a minimum tax of 11,600 HUF per thousand pieces. This represents a significant increase compared to current rates, leading to higher prices for consumers. The changes aim to adjust for inflation and increase government revenue.
